WPlus9 Step It Up Challenge

Quilt1

WPlus9 is celebrating its 4th birthday and there’s lots of inspiration happening over on their blog. I wanted to use the Quilt Cuts die for the current Step It Up challenge. I’d seen Dawn’s great video here with tips on using this die with adhesive sheets and it certainly does make the process of putting the “quilted” square together very easy! I used an old silver brad from my stash to finish it off. The sentiment is from WPlus9’s Fanciful Feathers stamp set and was heat embossed in white. I added some interest to the background panel by spritzing it with Dylusions White Linen ink spray (love this stuff!), a few sequins  and finally some faux stitching with a gel pen to keep with the sewing theme.

A Wedding Card

LoveSongs

My dear cousin Dominique is getting married on Sunday to her love Mark, a musician. When I sat down today to make a card for them I knew this sentiment (from Mama Elephant’s Love Quotes) would be perfect since Mark has written many love songs, all about Dom! The colour palette was inspired by the beautiful photo for the current Mama Elephant challenge:

2014-01

I used the Femme Frames stitched die for the matt piece and used some Stampin Up vellum paper for the main panel. I heat embossed the sentiment first, then added all the sequins and the adorable little critters (coloured with Copics and then die cut using the coordinating Love Quotes dies). I used a white gel pen to add some dots to the border of the vellum piece.

Embossing Paste + Glitter

Glittersnow1

Here’s another card inspired by the Stencilled class – I used white embossing paste over a Crafters Workshop Garden Gate stencil and while the paste was still wet sprinkled dry Ranger Rock Candy Distress Stickles dry glitter over the top. It gives a lovely fine shimmer over the entire surface. Even though Christmas is over, and here in Australia we’re having a heatwave, I felt the panel needed a delicate finish so I used a Memory Box snowflake die to cut a snowflake from white card and also from vellum. I spritzed the white snowflake with Mister Huey Seafoam and Calico Shine spray and held the white and vellum pieces together with glue dots and an old Stampin Up silver brad from my stash. I stamped the sentiment from WPlus9’s Woodland Wreaths onto vellum and heat embossed it in white.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Stencilled class and am already looking forward to Online Card Classes’ next offering!

Stencilled Day 3

DoilyFlowers1

So glad the weekend is here and I finally have time to catch up on my Stencilled class homework :). I absolutely loved the card Shari Carroll demonstrated using translucent embossing paste and distress inks. Here’s my CASE of the card, altered slightly by mounting the panel on black card and adding a panel with the sentiment and some flowers. I love the batik-look this stencil and inking produces and would love to try it out with some green and blue distress inks. Here’s a close up:
