WPlus9 Monday Mood Board #25 Card 2

FF1

Here’s the second thank you card I made using WPlus9’s Fanciful Feathers stamps and coordinating dies, this time along with the ikat stamp from Borders & Background 1. It was such fun putting the card together. I love the chic-ness of this week’s Monday Mood Board with its playful pop of yellow. It provided me with the colour inspiration for the card.

wplus9MMB25I stamped the ikat border in Stampin Up Crushed Curry and Smoky Slate. I die cut the feathers first, then stamped the two smaller images using Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle and Smoky Slate. The larger feather was spritzed in sunshine yellow.

WPlus9 Monday Mood Board #25 Card 1

FF3

This was my first card using WPlus9’s Fanciful Feathers stamps and coordinating dies. I adore both the images and the lovely hand script sentiments in this set. I had to make two thank you cards for my boys, who have just finished a two week summer music school program at the Canberra Young Music Society. Over 400 children took part, during a record-breaking heatwave. Keeping those children cool, safe and happily occupied was no mean feat! So we wanted to thank our kids’ teachers with a little card and gift. The colours were inspired by this week’s WPlus9 Monday Mood Board:

The stripes on the left of the card were stamped using images from WPlus9’s Country Charm set (I find myself reaching for that set all the time!). Next I die cut the feathers. Lining up the images on the die cut shapes is super easy. I stamped the smaller feather images in Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle and Stampin Up Smoky Slate.  The larger feather is lovely and delicate and I wanted to keep that feeling when it was coloured, so I lightly spritzed it using a colour spray. To adhere that feather I used a Quickie Glue stick – much easier and neater than using a tape runner.

Plaid stamping

Ever since I saw Kristina Werner’s wonderful plaid stamping card here I’ve been wanting to try this technique. I got my chance today when I unpacked some new goodies I’d ordered from WPlus9 and Papertrey Ink. I used two of the stripes from the WPlus9 Country Charm set and two from Papertrey Ink’s Super Stripes set to create this plaid. I’m a recent convert to photopolymer stamps, and have to say that this technique really demonstrates the benefits of good quality clear stamps. I was able to line all the stripes up without a stamp-a-ma-jig in sight ;).

This week’s CASology theme is “triangle”, so I did some masking to create the triangle tree shape in colours inspired by the current WPlus9 Monday Mood Board #23 challenge.

Aren’t the colours in this photo simply gorgeous?  For the inks I used Stampin Up Tangerine Tango, Crisp Cantaloupe, Wild Wasabi and Pear Pizzazz. The mood board reminded me of the beautiful cut roses my Mum gave me yesterday fresh from her garden. I placed them in one of my vases from a favourite local store, Bison Ceramics.

And here’s a photo of the card in progress with the masking still attached (I used extra large sticky-notes). I’ll keep practising the technique – it’s quite addictive!
